Architecture and Layout
Covering about 56 hectares (140 acres), Preah Khan is a vast temple complex known for its blend of Buddhist and Hindu traditions. It features unique structures, including a rare two-story pavilion, the Hall of Dancers, and grand entrances guarded by impressive Garudas and Nagas, showcasing the beauty and complexity of Khmer architecture.
History and Preservation
Preah Khan once housed thousands of monks, teachers, and dancers, making it an important center of religious and cultural life. Since the 1990s, the World Monuments Fund has helped preserve the temple while carefully keeping many of its surrounding trees, maintaining its unique jungle-covered atmosphere.
isitor Experience
Atmosphere: Quieter than Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm, Preah Khan offers a peaceful experience away from the crowds. Located along the Grand Circuit, it is easy to include in an Angkor tour.
Opening Hours: Open daily from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and requires an Angkor Pass.
Photo Tip: Its long, straight corridors create a beautiful “never-ending tunnel” effect, making it a favorite spot for photography.
