Ta Prohm Temple

History and Architecture

Originally built as a large Buddhist monastery and university, Ta Prohm once supported thousands of people. Its Bayon-style architecture features stone courtyards, galleries, and halls surrounded by the peaceful forest.

Restoration and “Tomb Raider”

Preservation: Unlike many other temples, Ta Prohm was intentionally left partly in ruins to preserve its remarkable jungle atmosphere.

Tomb Raider: The temple gained worldwide fame as a filming location for the movie Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie.

Conservation: Cambodian and international experts continue to strengthen and restore the temple while carefully protecting the iconic trees that have become part of its character.

Visitor Tips

Opening Hours: Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Entry: An Angkor Pass is required.
Advice: Wear comfortable shoes and visit early morning or late afternoon to enjoy the temple with fewer crowds and less heat.
